Bonnie Cakes

My daughter wanted to see where her friend works, so we went to Bonnie Cakes in Ahururi in Napier. We got the special, 6 cupcakes for $20. So not cheap, but not expensive either. But that is not the important thing, the taste, the taste is the important things, and these are wonderful.

The Kitchen Table

The kitchen table is connected to the Photographers' Gallery, so there is always something to look at here. But that is not why we are here, it's the food that we want to try.

There is an extensive blackboard menu, but we have selected from the display cabinet. The salmon roulade is tasty and served with a nice sweet chilli sauce. It was a shame that my toasted sandwich was not delivered at the same time. By the time my sandwich arrived, the salmon was finished and tea was finished.

The Earl Grey was a nice blend, very fragrant, and tasty.

My toasted sandwich was really tasty, I had bacon, cheese and red onion. Instead of the traditional butter and toasted sandwich machine, I think it had been fried in the fat from the bacon. Very nice...
I would have scored them 8/10, but the slowness of my sandwich means I have to give 7/10.

Adoro Cafe

Adoro Cafe

142 Hastings St
Napier
06 835 1747

Want to get a great coffee or tea? This is the place to get it. They sell real Italian coffee here, and they import their own brand of tea, which they distribute from here. My local computer guy gets his coffee from here, and if you want to bribe him, a coffee from here will do the trick.

The cafe has a european feel, and it is quite small. We sat at the back and the table was very small. So small that our food do not fit on the table.

The fresh pastries looked very nice, and the cabinet food was appetising. I had a flat bread with chicken and my wife had bacon and egg sandwich. The flat bread was tasty, but not very filling, as I expected. But my wife was very disappointed with her bacon and egg sandwich. It was not cooked fresh, and it looked too small for the price they charged.

I would be happy to go back, but my wife will not go there again.

I can only recommend the coffee and pastries.

Cafe Devine - Napier

Cafe Devine has been in Napier for some time now. I have been before, a few years ago, and i didn't really enjoy myself. But I recently found out that my favourite barister, Scotty, is back in Napier and working there. He makes the best coffee and he has so much fun with the customers.

So, now that I know Scotty is back there, I wanted to try again. The first time we went there, i went with my daughter as a treat for her. She has done well at school lately, so it was a reward to go there for breakfast. She choose the french toast. This came out hot, with maple syrup, bacon and banana. It was delicious. Unfortunately, it has cinnamon on it and my daughter doesn't like that. Scotty came over to make sure that everything was alright, and was upset that my daughter didn't enjoy her breakfast. I was amazed that they made another complete breakfast for her with out the cinnamon. I think that is great service, so I recommend Cafe Devine.

They use Havana coffee, and the barister makes the best coffee. He has always made great coffee, and I have followed him from cafe to cafe. If I am in town for any reason, I will always get a coffee from Scotty.

For lunch, I ordered the sausage roll. This was made on site, and it was a chunky sausage roll, with a great pastry. It comes with a small salad and dressing. The taste was great. This is not a bland lump of meat, it was slightly spicey and full of flavour. I really enjoyed it.

The atmosphere at Cafe Devine is professional, but very friendly. this is well worth a visit.

The Station (again)

On a cold winter's day there is nothing like a log fire and a hot lunch to warm you up. We've come back to the The Station in Station Street, Napier. I like this restaurant, it's warm and close to town. The menu has a lot of choices, from small snacks to full meals.

For luch today, I'm trying the American Hot Dog with fries. I just want a small snack and I feel like some hot fries.

When the meal came, it made me smile to see the fries in the small basket. The frank was hot and tasty. The surprise was the chees under the frank, which had melted into the bun.

The Station Bar & Grill

The Station Bar & Grill! I have been here before, when it first opened, but I wanted to visit again. The restaurant is well arranged. The Station Bar & Grill has a full menu and the service is friendly and quick. So I was surprised that the restaurant was so quiet. The location of the restaurant is close to the centre of Napier. It would only take a few minutes to walk from the centre of Napier to The Station Bar & Grill

There is a full menu here that suits a lunch or dinner visit. I liked the way the meals were set out by price, this makes it easy to choose a full meal, or a quick snack.

I had a pizza. Quick, hot and tasty, what more could you want for a quick lunch?

There was so much pizza, I had to take more than half of it home. My wife had the seafood chowder, which she said was really delicious.

I really recommend this restaurant. I've been a few times now, and never disappointed. The food is not fancy, it's good value.

Cafe Zest

I really enjoyed the lunch at Cafe Zest. The cafe is deceptive. It looks really small, but they have a great private courtyard. So, on a fine day this is a good place to eat.

The food was nicely presented, easy to locate, with a reasonable range. When you enter, you get the impression of a clean, open, and inviting place to eat.

The food came out to us quickly, and well presented. The salad was fresh. The other food was hot and it was very nice.

Overall, I really enjoyed myself here. It is child friendly, and on a fine day, is hard to beat. I give it 8/10. Recommended.
